A man has been arrested after a woman’s body was discovered in a Penrith unit, with her burnt-out car also found in nearby bushland.

Police were alerted to the grim find around 4.15pm on Monday, after a woman attended Penrith Police Station to report she had found a body inside a unit on Colless Street.

A crime scene has been set up at the apartment, which has been examined by specialist forensic police.

The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be the 28-year-old resident of the home.

Police said the woman’s car was found burnt-out in bushland at Castlereagh near Post Office Road a short time later.

The vehicle was seized and will now undergo forensic examination.

Following investigations, a 32-year-old man was arrested at a house on Robinson Road in Cranebrook in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The man has been taken to Penrith Police Station as inquiries continue.

Strike Force Diere has been formed to investigate the woman’s death.
