Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has been charged with a drink driving offence after a head-on crash in the NSW mid-north coast.

Police say 42-year-old Johns was allegedly driving along the Pacific Highway at North Arm Cove on Wednesday when he swerved into the other lane, crashing into a van.

He was arrested at the scene when he allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.

Johns underwent a second test, with Police alleging he was three times over the limit at 0.157.

The driver of the van, a 51-year-old man, and a 55-year-old female passenger were both treated at the scene before the woman was taken to hospital and has since been released.

Johns took to social media this morning to address the crash, saying he got “lost while driving” and citing his ongoing mental health problems as the cause.

“Over the last week I began to experience panic attacks,” Johns said in an Instagram post.

“Alongside my therapy, I’ve been self-medicating with alcohol to deal with my PTSD, anxiety and depression.”

The singer said he has since checked himself into a rehab facility.

“I know this is not sustainable or healthy,”

“I have to step back now as I’m self admitting to a rehabilitation centre and I don’t know how long I’ll be there.”
