A man will front court today after an elderly woman allegedly woke to find him lurking in her bedroom.
Police were called to a home on Cossa Street in West Tamworth just before 6.30am on Monday, after an 89-year-old woman reported a man had entered her bedroom.
It’s understood the woman screamed, scaring the man who ran away.
Officers established a crime scene and launched a search of the area, arresting a 23-year-old man at a home on Sue Crescent.
The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, and break and enter house etc steal.
He was refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court later today.
A number of items have been recovered and are undergoing forensic examination as investigations continue.
