Police have discovered the body of a woman in floodwaters in Lismore, believed to be that of a missing aged care nurse.

The 55-year-old woman disappeared after her vehicle was swept away at Monaltrie, approximately 5km south of Lismore on Tuesday night.

A body was discovered in North Lismore on Thursday night.

It is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be the 55-year-old.

The woman’s vehicle, a 2017 Holden Captiva hasn’t been located.

Floodwaters continue to fall across parts of the northern rivers with the Wilsons River now falling below the major flood level and below the town’s levee.

The river was at 9.7 metres on Thursday night.

Major flooding continues along sections of the Richmond River.

The river is at 6.65 metres at Coraki and is slowly falling after peaking at 6.81 metres on Thursday night.

At Bungawalbin, the river is peaking near 5.52 metres while at Woodburn the river is expected to peak around 4.6 metres on Friday morning.

A severe weather warning has been issued for coastal areas from the mid-north coast to the south coast with the state expecting to be smashed by gale-force winds and huge seas.

Gusts of up to 100 km/h are possible with waves of 5 metres also forecast.
