A man has been shot dead after allegedly threatening officers with a knife at a western Sydney police station.
The man walked into Auburn Police Station armed with the weapon just after midnight, forcing officers to draw their weapons.
Police immediately performed first aid on the man until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.
He was then rushed to Westmead Hospital but died a short time later.
“It is believed the same man was involved in the stabbing of a 28-year-old man at 12.03am at Auburn Railway Station,” NSW police said in a statement.
“Neither man is known to one another”.
The younger man was treated by paramedics at Auburn Railway Station before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
A critical incident investigation is now underway and willl look at the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.
That investigation will be subject to independent review.
