A man has been extradited from Queensland to New South Wales after being charged with an outstanding arrest warrant over alleged historical child sex offences.

Police first launched an investigation in 2009 after receiving reports of alleged historical sexual violence offences that occurred in Merrylands between 1991 and 1994.

Police allege the man sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl, who was known to him, between 1991 and 1994.

Following extensive inquires, Queensland Police arrested a 52-year-old man in Yarrabilb on Monday.

NSW detectives then travelled to Queensland yesterday, where they applied for, and were granted, the man’s extradition to NSW.

The man was then taken to Mascot Police Station, where the outstanding warrant was executed for the offences of aggravated sexual assault – victim under 16 and aggravated act of indecency – victim under 16.

The man was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today.
