The death of a baby overseas has sparked the urgent recall of two types of baby rockers and swings sold in Australia.
There are fears of strangulation in the ‘4moms mamaRoo Multi-motion Baby Swing 4.0’ and the ‘rockaRoo Baby Rocker’.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued the recall for products sold from May 2018 to September 2022.
“When not in use, and an infant is not secured in the swing or rocker, the restraint straps may dangle below the seat,” the ACCC says.
“This may lead to children becoming tangled in the strap,
“If a child becomes tangled in the strap, they may be strangled.”
The recall affects the mamaRoo models 4M-005, 1026 and 1037 and rockaRoo Model 4M-012.
In a recall statement, 4moms Australia says the incident occurred outside of Australia.
“Please note that no safety incident has occurred outside of America, including Australia, however, The Amazing Baby Company has worked with the ACCC to establish the best remedy and outcome for Australia consumers,”
“We would also like to note that the product meets all required safety certifications and there is no risk to the occupant of the product.”
Consumers are being urged to put the product away where children cannot access it until a strap fastener has been fitted.
Impacted customers are eligible to receive a free strap fastener that will prevent the straps from extending under the swing or rocker when not in use.
Those effected should register their details with The Amazing Baby Company here.
