One lucky Aussie could become the country’s second-biggest lottery winner in history tonight – if they take home the entire $100 million Powerball jackpot up for grabs.
Up to half of Australia’s adult population are expected to buy a ticket into the massive draw, with newsagents expected to be flooded with hopeful millionaires throughout the day.
It’s only the fourth time a $100 million jackpot has been offered in the game’s 26-year history, with The Lott’s website also expected to get a good workout as thousands flock to buy an entry.
“We haven’t seen a $100 million Powerball draw for more than three years and it seems Aussies are excited for the chance to score this life-changing prize,” The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said.
“On the last occasion, in September 2019, the peak of sales was at 7.22pm on the day of the draw when more than 7,800 tickets were sold in a single minute.
“That was just minutes before the draw’s close. This time around, we’re encouraging anyone who wants the chance to win this huge prize to grab their entry early – either in-store, online or via The Lott app.”
Mr Eddy said players should register their entries to a player card or online account so they can be immediately contacted should they win big.
“We’ll be on the edge of our seats eagerly awaiting the results of this week’s Powerball draw and will be standing by ready to reach out to any registered division one winners,” he said.
“If you see your phone ringing on Thursday night, it could be us, so make sure you pick up for a chat”.
The $100 million Powerball draw closes at 7.30pm AEST tonight – Goodluck!
