Excitement is building amongst royal fans in Australia, with King Charles and Queen Camilla just hours from touching down in the country.

The royal couple will arrive in Sydney this evening, where they will be greeted by a group of dignitaries including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

It will mark the first time the King has visited the country since he became Monarch.

The last time the then Prince Charles was down under was when he opened the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.

The sails of the Sydney Opera House will tonight be lit up with a photo montage of the King and Queen upon their arrival, with local police launching operation ‘royal visit’ to ensure things run smoothly.

The operation will run from today through to next Wednesday, with NSW police admitting planning of the operation has taken place over many months.

“NSWPF has been working with partner agencies including the UK Royal and Specialist protection team, to provide an operational response,” they said.

“General and specialist police will be deployed throughout the operation to manage the movement of the King and Queen between engagements, and to provide a safe environment for visiting dignitaries and the community”.

The couple is also expected to spend time in Canberra during their four days down under.
