The heartbroken parents of Jake and Callum, the two Australian brothers murdered in Mexico, have shared their grief for the first time.

Martin and Debra Robinson fought back tears as they paid a heart-wrenching tribute to their sons from Ocean Beach in San Diego, where Callum had been living.

His little brother Jake was visiting when the pair took off on a surfing and camping trip just over the border in Mexico’s Baja region with their American friend.

It was there the trio was shot dead in what authorities described as a “robbery gone wrong”.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Callum and Jake Robinson have been murdered,” the boy’s devastated mother told reporters this morning.

“Our hearts are broken and the world has become a darker place for us…. We also mourn the loss of Carter Rhoad, a close friend.

She said “they were young men enjoying their passion of surfing together”.

The parents also thanked those who helped with the search for their sons and have sent messages of condolence since.

“We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of emotions… We know they were truly loved and impacted many lives,” they said.

“Callum was a loveable, larger-than-life character and considered the United States his second home.

“Known as ‘Big Koala’, he played professional lacrosse in the PPL and represented Australia in the world championships.

“His brother, Jake, was a happy, gentle and compassionate soul who was pursuing a career in medicine.”

Through tears, they said they now just want to bring their boys home.

“Now it’s time to bring them home to family and friends and the ocean waves in Australia,” Ms Roberston said.

“Please live bigger. Shine brighter. And love harder in their memory”.
