The family of murdered Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe have lashed out at a new movie inspired by the manhunt for the 13-year-old’s killer.
Daniel’s mother Denise Morcombe took to social media on Thursday where she slammed the film, which is reportedly a fictionalised account based on the events of the 2003 murder.
“The movie The Stranger is not supported by the Morcombe family,” Denise wrote.
“We find the making of the movie morally corrupt and cruel”.
Denise continued by describing the filmmakers as “parasites”.
“Individuals who make money on a heinous crime are parasites,” she wrote.
“They are callously disrespectful to Daniel, the DMF & the Morcombe family… Shame on you”.
Bruce Morcombe, Daniel’s father, also took aim at the film and its creators in a fiery tweet.
“We are not amused! How can anyone give oxygen to a crime that is so, so evil? Mr Morcombe wrote.
“Connections of the movie have blood on their hands,” he continued.

Daniel was just 13-years-old when he disappeared from a bus stop on the Sunshine Coast on his way to buy Christmas presents for his family in 2003.
Following an extensive eight-year investigation, police charged Brett Peter Cowan with Morcombe’s murder in 2011.
He was ordered to stand trial three years later, where he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.
