An off-duty police officer has drowned after saving a teenager caught in a riptide on the NSW south coast.
The 45-year-old entered the water at Bogola Beach, south of Narooma, around 1.30pm on New Year’s Day to help the teen who had gotten into trouble.
The hero cop saved the youngster, before becoming caught in the rip himself.
The man was pulled from the water unconscious, before NSW Ambulance paramedics commenced CPR.
Despite their best efforts, he tragically died at the scene.
Local police have since commenced an investigation and will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
