Thousands of travellers have been left stranded in Sydney, with wild weather causing chaos at the airport.
More than 80 flights in and out of the Harbour City have been cancelled across Thursday due to strong winds and heavy rain.
Travellers had been hoping to take advantage of the National Day of Mourning, which is coinciding with the beginning of the school holidays in New South Wales, to head off on holiday.
Many were also planning to fly to Melbourne for the AFL Grand Final on Saturday or up to Townsville for Parramatta’s NRL preliminary final with the Cowboys.
However, the plans for many were ruining after Sydney Airport cancelled 45 departing flights from 6am right through to 7.30pm.
More than 40 flights arriving into Sydney have also been cancelled or delayed right across the country.
“In anticipation of bad weather today, domestic airlines advised overnight that some services would be affected,” Sydney Airport said in a statement.
“Passengers are advised to check with their airline regarding the status of their flight.
“Passengers who are travelling today are recommended to arrive two hours prior to domestic flight departures, and three hours for international services.”
