Bulldogs NRL star Josh Ado-Carr faces missing the club’s first finals appearance in eight years after allegations he failed a roadside drug test.
Club bosses will hold an urgent meeting on Tuesday morning following earlier confusion about the incident on Friday night.
Bulldogs Football boss Phil Gould took to social media on Monday to dismiss the reports of the failed test.
“There is absolutely no truth to rumours that Josh had any issue. None whatsoever,” Gould said on X.
But Police later confirmed a man, understood to be Ado-Carr was under investigation.
“About 10.45pm on Friday, officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command were patrolling Baywater Drive, Wentworth Point, when they stopped a Toyota hatchback for random testing,” NSW Police said in a statement,
“The driver – a 29-year-old man – was subject to roadside testing which allegedly returned a positive indication for cocaine. The sample has been sent for analysis.”
Gould held further talks with Ado-Carr and his manager on Monday afternoon with the star winger conceding he did in fact return a positive indication for cocaine.
“When he spoke to us on Saturday morning he told us he had been pulled over, that he’d had a roadside drug test, that the first testwas inconclusive, the second test was negative, and he was allowed to go,” Gould told Nine.
“It wasn’t until two days later on Monday when media reports and rumours started to circulate that there might have been an issue and late yesterday a Police statement that contradicted a lot of things that Josh had told us about the incident on Friday night.”
Gould will hold talks with the club’s chairman and coach this morning.
“I’m very disappointed. Our club has done extremely well this year to qualify for the finals, we’ve got a big week for the fans and the club this weekend and we need to make a decision today to work out what we’re doing with Josh this weekend so the team can get on with their preparations.”
