Newsagents across the country are bracing for a busy day as Aussies flock to grab a ticket into tonight’s massive $100 million Powerball draw.
Hopeful millionaires have just hours left to secure an entry into the potentially life-changing draw, which is the biggest prize in almost three months and the sixth-largest jackpot in Australian lottery history.
Up to half of all Aussie adults are expected to grab a ticket, with thousands of entries per minute expected to be snapped up at both newsagents and online right up until the draw’s close at 7.30pm.
“As $100 million is the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in almost three months, we anticipate a rush across the country as Aussies vie for the chance to become the next Powerball multi-millionaire,” The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said.
“This is the time when office chatter turns into work syndicates, and everyone becomes a dreamer, plotting how they’d spend a share of the phenomenal $100 million prize.
“The last time we saw a $100 million Powerball draw was in May when the peak of sales was at 6.44pm on the day of the draw when more than 7,980 tickets were sold in a single minute.
“On that occasion, the prize wasn’t won and it jackpotted to $150 million, which delivered Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner – an Adelaide man”.
Anyone who buys a ticket is being urged to register it to an account to ensure Lotto officials can make contact as soon as the lucky numbers go off.
“By registering your ticket to a player card or online account, we can contact you straight after the draw should you win big on Thursday night.
“Be sure to take your phone off silent and pick up immediately if you see your phone light up with an incoming call on Thursday night. It could be lottery officials calling with life-changing news!
“Could we crown our equal third-biggest lottery winner in Australian history on Thursday night if one player claims the entire $100 million Powerball prize? We can’t wait to find out”.
