It’s been revealed an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly stabbed in a brazen, broad daylight attack in London is from Australia.
The child was with her mother in the popular tourist hotspot of Leicester Square on Monday when she was allegedly approached by a man who put her in a headlock before stabbing her several times.
The girl was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery for wounds to her face, shoulder, wrist and neck area.
A 32-year-old man, Ioan Pintaru, has since appeared in a London court charged with attempted murder over the alleged attack.
The court heard that Mr Pintaru, who spoke through a translator, was a Romanian citizen with no fixed address.
According to local police, the man did not know the girl or her mother.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed it is in contact with the pair.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to two Australians injured in London,” an official said.
