Sea World crews are currently on standby to rescue two humpback whales entangled in commercial fishing gear.
The pair were first spotted in distress off Port Macquarie on the New South Wales mid-north coast over the weekend but are now heading our way.
They’re expected to arrive in Gold Coast waters sometime this morning, however, it could be even later depending on their swimming speed.
The giant mammals, who are travelling separately, are believed to be caught up in long ropes and flotation buoys, with local rescue crews standing by ready to help the animals.
Boaties, or locals out on their morning walks, are being urged to keep a close eye on the ocean and to raise the alarm with authorities if spotted.
