Millions of Australians are expected to cast their ballot for the Federal Election early, with pre-polling centres officially opening today.
It comes less than two weeks out from election day on May 3.
According to the Australian Electoral Commission, 98.2 per cent of eligible Australians have enrolled to vote in the upcoming election.
Those who can’t make it to a polling booth on election day due to other commitments like work or travel, are being encouraged to visit a pre-polling centre to cast their vote.
There are several booths opening across the Gold Coast from 8.30am this morning:
- Pimpama Community Centre Sports Hub: 139 Rifle Range Rd, Pimpama QLD 4209
- Helensvale Senior Citizens Club: 37 Discovery Dr, Helensvale QLD 4212
- Runaway Bay Community Centre: Lae Dr, Runaway Bay QLD 4216
- Southport Community Centre: 6 Lawson St, Southport QLD 4215
- DC Church: 3 Chisholm Rd, Carrara QLD 4211
- Fradgley Hall: Park Ave, Burleigh Heads QLD 4220
- Reedy Creek Baptist Church: 10 Gemvale Rd, Reedy Creek QLD 4227
- Share-N-Care Centre: 31 Tenth Ave, Palm Beach QLD 4221
All voting centres will be closed on Anzac Day, Friday, April 25.
You can vote early either in person or by post if on polling day you:
- are outside the electorate where you are enrolled to vote
- are more than 8km from a polling place
- are travelling
- are unable to leave your workplace to vote
- are seriously ill, infirm or due to give birth shortly (or caring for someone who is)
- are a person with disability (or caring for someone who is)
- are a patient in hospital and can’t vote at the hospital
- have religious beliefs that prevent you from attending a polling place
- are in prison serving a sentence of less than three years or otherwise detained
- are a silent elector
- have a reasonable fear for your safety or wellbeing
