For the first time since 2003, on Saturday night, A geomagnetic storm caused the phenomena called Aurora Australis otherwise known as the Southern Lights.

The breathtaking light display results from sun-emitted plasma and solar flares in four “coronal mass ejections” shooting magnetic particles toward Earth…which doesn’t sound scary at all.

Australians stopped all along the coastline to witness a spectacular display of pink, blue, and green lights spreading through the sky.

Although the Australian Space Weather Forecasting Centre warned the storm could threaten power signals across the weekend, it did not stop Aussies from taking it all in.
