A group of youths are on the run after attacking a man who tried to stop them from breaking into cars in Mermaid Waters.
The resident allegedly busted the three youths attempting to break into cars along The Lanes Boulevard around midnight on Sunday.
He phoned police after he also spotted the trio stealing a bike, which turned out to be his.
“He followed them in his vehicle a short distance and was struck through his car window by one of the youths,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.
The man thankfully managed to escape serious injury.
The youths fled the scene and remain at large this morning, with a search now underway.
Police have confirmed investigations are ongoing.
