UPDATE | A young woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she was allegedly pushed from a van on the M1 on the Gold Coast.
According to Queensland Police, the woman was travelling in a van through Pimpama around 9.30pm on Sunday when she was pushed from the vehicle which had stopped on the side of the road.
The woman, aged in her 20s, struck her head on the concrete barrier and is now in the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the van initially drove off from the scene but eventually surrendered himself to police a short time later.
The 18-year-old man from Shailer Park has since been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm (domestic violence) assault (domestic violence) contravention of domestic violence order and drive whilst disqualified.
He will appear before the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
Police say the man and woman are known to each other.

EARLIER @ 7.00am | A young woman is in a serious condition after being hit by a car on the Pacific Motorway.
The 28-year-old was struck in the northbound lanes of the M1 at Pimpama around 9.30pm on Sunday.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and found the woman suffering a significant head injury.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the High Acuity Response Unit and Critical Care Paramedics were on board for transport to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
It’s unclear at this stage exactly how the incident occurred, however, the woman is believed to have exited a vehicle before she was struck.
Police have confirmed they are investigating.
