A manhunt is underway following a terrifying robbery at a restaurant in Marsden overnight.

According to police, a man armed with a knife and what appeared to be a firearm entered a Macarthy Road restaurant around 6.00pm through a back door.

Once inside, he threatened three workers with the weapons, forcing them to run for their lives from the building.

The man then fled with the cash register, which was later located by police a short distance away with all cash still inside.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

The man is believed to be Caucasian in appearance, approximately 175cm tall and was wearing a black mask over his face and a dark-coloured jumper.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV in the vicinity of Macarthy Road, Third Avenue and Burrowes Street between 5.45pm and 6.30pm to contact them.
