LATEST @ NOVEMBER 4 A young woman has tragically lost her fight for life after being pulled from the Broadwater at Southport.

The 25-year-old international student failed to resurface after jumping from the jetty with friends around 4.40pm on Thursday afternoon.

A nearby lifeguard at the Broadwater Parklands rescued her from the water and began CPR before emergency services arrived.

Paramedics worked to revive the woman at the scene before rushing her to hospital in a critical condition.

The young woman was sadly pronounced dead in hospital.

David Morgan from Queensland Ambulance Service says she was under water for some time before being rescued.

“From reports, it’s estimated that it may be up to ten minutes,” Mr Morgan says.

“Quite a traumatic event and for someone just to go missing quite quickly like that, a lot of other people were distressed.”

He says her friends who watched on are “distraught and upset over the event”. 

EARLIER @ NOVEMBER 3 A young woman is fighting for her life after being pulled from the Broadwater at Southport.

Emergency Services rushed to the surf off Marine Parade around 4.40pm this afternoon.

A QAS spokesperson has confirmed with myGC that the woman in her 20s is currently in a critical condition.

It’s believed the woman may have jumped from the jetty at the Broadwater and was unable to resurface.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene, before rushing her to Gold Coast University Hospital.
