A Logan woman has been charged with fraud after she allegedly tried to dodge her driving fine by blaming it on the pilot killed in the Sea World helicopter crash.

The 33-year-old Park Ridge woman was allegedly busted using her mobile phone while driving on December 15 last year and was issued with an infringement notice by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The woman is then accused of trying to shift the blame by claiming the person behind the wheel was actually former Gold Coast helicopter pilot Ash Jenkinson – that’s despite the incident occurring a week after he had already died.

Police allege the woman used the details found in Mr Jenkinson’s obituary to make the claim via an online portal in January after seeing his death notice.

Authorities were able to track her down after the Pilot’s heartbroken widow received the notice in the mail.

The woman has been charged with obtaining or dealing with identity information and fraud.

She will appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 6.
