Petrol continues to soar to record-high prices across the country, with Gold Coasters coughing up over $2.10 per litre on average.

We’ve seen a massive hike due to global pressures including the Ukraine-Russia war, which has left locals scrambling to find the cheapest place to fill up.

The Federal Government is under pressure to cut fuel excise, which is a 44-cent charge on every litre of petrol used for transport.

However, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says any decision won’t be announced until the federal budget later this month.

Until then, we’re likely to see the price of petrol continue to increase above an eye-watering $2.20 a litre.
