Gold Coasters will head to the polls today to decide the makeup of the next Council that will lead the Gold Coast into the next four years.
For those who like to indulge in a democracy sausage and vote in person, polling booths will open at 8.00am before closing at 6pm sharp.
Wait times at polling booths are expected to be a little shorter than usual, with more than 115,00 locals having already cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
This year there’s 46 candidates vying for votes, with a guarantee of four new councillors in Divisions 2, 11, 12 and 13 following the departure of their long-term leaders.
Tom Tate is going for a record fourth term as Mayor, however, there are eight challengers vying for the Mayoralty.
Eddy Sarroff, Virginia Freebody, Lavinia Rampino, Danielle Dunsmore, Rosie Foster, Jennifer Horsburgh, Gary Pead, and Brett Lambert are all gunning for the city’s top job.
It comes as Steven Miles also prepares to face the first big test as Premier today, with two State by-elections being held.
Voters will decide on a successor in former Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s old seat of Inala, while voters will also go to the polls in Ipswich West.
While both seats are held on comfortable margins for the State Government, there are concerns that Labor will see large swings against them.
Election results will be published on the electoral commission website as votes are counted.
