Gold Coasters are being encouraged to sign up to tackle a stair climb challenge next month.
The Skypoint Sea to Sky Q1 Stair Challenge is happening on March 20, with participants set to climb Australia’s tallest building while raising much-needed funds for local charity LIVIN.
With a total of 77 floors (or 1,331 stairs) to climb, Skypoint General Manager Dylan Hunt said it is no easy feat.
“It definitely takes a certain type of person to be able to take on the 1,331 steps. Some will do it in over an hour, and some will be trying to break the world record which is 6 minutes and 41 seconds,” he said.
Past participant and event sponsor Ben Peasley from Choice Homes told myGC he is hoping Gold Coasters get behind the event and take part.
“I would be lying if I said it was a walk in the park, it is actually quite a challenge. The pushing that you go through on the way up is just incredible and the view that you see at the top is second to none,” he told myGC.
The challenge is open to all fitness levels so participants can run, walk or crawl their way to the top in a range of individual or team categories.
All participants are also required to raise or pledge a minimum of $35 for LIVIN on top of their event registration, which will go towards delivery of the LIVINWell mental health educational program in schools around the country.
“Last year we raised $50,000, so that would be nice. For us it costs $19.92 to deliver our program to a child so $50,000 would be a very beneficial amount of money for us,” LIVIN Co-Founder Casey Lyons told myGC.
Local kids can also get involved with the challenge by taking part in a colouring competition. There’s $1331 worth of prizes up for grabs, including a Family Annual Passes to SkyPoint, Dreamworld, and WhiteWater World, a Choice Homes merchandise pack, a LIVIN merchandise pack, and more.
