Surf Life Saving Queensland has issued a warning to beachgoers ahead of what’s expected to be a busy long weekend on Gold Coast beaches.

The warning comes after a horror week on our beaches, with two drownings and lifeguards rescuing 40 people on Monday and Tuesday alone.

“Easter on the Gold Coast is a very big weekend for beachgoers but we want people to do it safe and go home safe,” SLSQ Gold Coast Regional Operations Manager Nathan Fife told myGC.

“This Easter, we are encouraging people to please not take risks. Make sure you swim at patrolled locations between the red and yellow flags.

“Our lifeguards and lifesavers will have the beach open from 8am to 5pm. Don’t be coming down earlier or after 5pm, because unfortunately our lifesavers and lifeguards won’t be there to save you. Please listen to our lifesavers and lifeguards, do the right thing and swim between the red and yellow flags.”
