BLEACH* Festival will be returning with a bang in 2022, with the arts and cultural festival unveiling its program at a special event at North Burleigh on Thursday night.

Around 233 artists will be showcased at this year’s event, with 94 performances and 36 events to take place from August 11 to 21.

The city’s beachside esplanades, Botanic Gardens and hinterland hideaways will be transformed to make way for 11 days of pulsating performance that this year has positioned the artistic process at the forefront of its program.

Placemakers* CEO & Artistic Director for Bleach* Rosie Dennis told myGC after the cancellation of last year’s festival, she is thrilled to be launching this year’s event.

“Bleach is going to be great this year,” she said.

“With more new work commissions than ever before, this year’s BLEACH* is jam packed full of inspirational stories, breathtaking opera, and out-of-the-box performances in some of our favourite locations. Come once and come again with your friends!”

Ms Dennis said there are so many highlights throughout the festival, with Day 1 set to feature two of her favourite events.

“We open as we did previous festivals with First Light which is a free community event at sunrise on the 11th of August on the incredible headland at North Burleigh,” she said.

“That night, we’ve got beautiful Botanic Gardens. We’ve partnered with Opera Queensland to bring a home grown opera to the Gold Coast. This opera is being made with songs that have been contributed by Gold Coast locals and they are about life’s big moments – births, deaths, marriages.”

The Gold Coast’s flagship annual arts and cultural celebration will feature four main hubs, including North Burleigh, Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, Miami’s industrial pocket and Mudgeeraba. The reach of the festival will also extend to HOTA (Home of the Arts), Burleigh Brewing and Miami Marketta.
