All boaties and waterway users are being urged by water police to avoid going out in the waters over the next few days and across the weekend.
The Gold Coast is currently being hit with strong winds and large swells, but those conditions are expected to worsen from today.
Severe gale force winds and damaging swells are predicted to batter the coast by this weekend, with a warning to all boaties to stay away.
Water Police Sergeant Daniel Moyle says heading out this weekend is simply not worth the risk.
“We are expecting to see extremely dangerous conditions on the water and are urging everyone to make smart decisions and stay safe,” Sergeant Moyle says.
“Boaties and non-powered watercraft users should reconsider any plans over the coming days.”
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting an East Coast Low to develop off the southeast Queensland coast on Friday with wave and wind impacts to coastal areas over the coming days.
Windy conditions are expected to develop on the Gold Coast waters from as early as today with the windiest conditions expected on Friday and Saturday.
There is a risk of offshore Gales developing for a time from the Fraser waters to the Gold Coast waters.
Meanwhile, anyone who has vessels on the waterways or moored on the side should ensure they are sufficiently secured by an anchor or with an appropriate line.
Water Police are reminding anyone who is heading out to remember to log on with their local radio base and consider their safety management plan.
