A wanted Brisbane man has been arrested on the Gold Coast after allegedly trying to carjack a woman at a shopping centre in Southport.

A search was launched for 36-year-old Jamie Nelson-Adams who had reportedly cut off his ankle bracelet.

He was last seen at Milton railway station in Brisbane around 3pm on Monday.

Nelson-Adams is understood to have made his way to the Gold Coast where he allegedly threatened a woman with a knife in the car park of Australia Fair around 7pm.

The woman managed to fight off her attacker before he fled.

He jumped on a tram where he was tracked on CCTV cameras.

Nelson-Adams was later arrested near Cypress Avenue in Surfers Paradise.

He has now been charged with one count each of unlawful entry of vehicle, attempted armed robbery, serious assault person over 60 and two counts of contravene relevant order (curfew and remove GPS device).

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court later today.
