TWO teenagers have been charged over a multi-vehicle crash that caused commuter chaos on the M1 during peak hour.
The pair were allegedly travelling with a group in a stolen white 2023 Mazda Cx5, taken from a home in Varsity Lakes on Wednesday night, when it crashed into a Mini Cooper S at speed through Pimpama around 4.40pm on Thursday.
Officers were forced to shut down three southbound lanes of the motorway for more than an hour while emergency services responded, leading to hours of delays for drivers.
The two teenage boys suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital for treatment. The female driver of the Mini also sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
A 15-year-old Logan boy has since been charged with one count of burglary, stealing and unlawful use of motor vehicle. He has been denied police bail ahead of an appearance in the Southport Children’s Court at a later date.
A 16-year-old Tanah Merah boy has also been charged with one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle. He was granted police bail ahead of an appearance in the Southport Children’s Court at a later date.
Police will also allege three other teenagers were in the stolen car but ran from the scene on foot and remain on the run this morning.
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
