UPDATE | A dispute about pets is believed to have sparked a vicious neighbourhood brawl on the northern Gold Coast that has left three men in hospital.
Police were called to a home on Cormorant Crescent in Jacobs Well around 11pm on Saturday.
Two males reportedly went to the property armed with a baseball bat before a man in his 60s was allegedly assaulted, suffering head injuries.
The victim’s partner then allegedly grabbed a knife in an attempt to defend the man.
A man in his 50s suffered a stab wound to his chest which resulted in a collapsed lung.
A man in his 40s suffered stab wounds to his back.
Charges are yet to be laid with detectives still piecing together what happened.
”I know that there is a certain level of self defence here, but when you start using knives, it takes it to a whole new level,” Inspector Bruce Kuhn told the ABC.
”Self defence relies on equal force for the force that’s being displayed and as soon as you pick up a knife, that just escalates it so much.”
Police are looking into claims the two men went to the house after a cat was killed, believing the neighbour’s dog was responsible.
