UPDATE @ 10.45am | Four people, including at least two police officers, have been taken to hospital after a nasty crash in Mermaid Waters.

Two cars, including a police wagon, collided at the intersection of Markeri and Bermuda Streets around 9.30am.

The impact of the crash caused the police car to flip and come to a rest on its side next to the traffic lights.

Two police officers in the vehicle were trapped for some time and firefighters had to cut the roof off the vehicle to get them out.

Two others were also treated by paramedics and all four have been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

EARLIER @ 10.00am | Rescue crews are working to free two people following a nasty crash involving a police car on the Gold Coast.

Two cars, including a police wagon, collided at the intersection of Markeri Street and Bermuda Street in Mermaid Waters around 9.30am on Monday, causing the wagon to roll onto its side and come to rest against the traffic light pole.

Rescue crews are on scene working to free two people who are currently trapped.

Queensland Ambulance has confirmed paramedics are at the scene waiting to assess the patients.

The northbound lanes of Bermuda Street have been blocked as a result of the crash and motorists are being warned of lengthy delays in both directions.
