It seems like it was a lucky weekend on the Gold Coast, with not one but two locals winning a division one lotto prize.
The pair each held one of the 11 winning entries in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw, taking home $909,090.91 each.
A man from Burleigh Heads was one of the winners and told The Lott officials he still can’t believe it’s real.
“I’ve been on cloud nine all day!” he said.
“My wife and I have just been over the moon.”
He admits he was stunned into silence after finding out he won the top prize.
“I had another entry in the draw, and when I checked it, I’d won $7.90. Then I checked this ticket. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said.
“I sat in silence for a couple of seconds. I raced to my wife, showed her and she went silent. She threw her arms around me. We were both just stunned.
“I tell you what – this phone call is the best phone call I’ve ever had.
“I’m so happy. It’s an amazing feeling.
“This really secures our future retirement.
“We’d love to do some overseas travel. We’ve already talked about going on a Mediterranean cruise!”
His marked 8-game entry was purchased at Palm Beach Newsagency.
A man from Carrara was the other local winner and found out about his windfall while mowing his lawn.
“You’re kidding! That’s awesome!” he exclaimed when his prize was confirmed by an official.
“Hang on, I’ve got to write down that number.
“I’ve never got a phone call like this before!
“I’ve been playing for years and used to play some special numbers, but then I just decided to move to a QuickPick.
“This is such good news! At the moment, my mind is going loopy.”
“It’s going to be a boost to the retirement funds and I’d love to go overseas.
“I’ve still got to mow the lawn today, though.”
His 12-game QuickPick entry was purchased at Nextra Village News Nerang.
Ower Barrie Williams said he was excited to sell another big lottery prize.
“We’ve sold a few over the years, but it’s always good to have another one,” he said.
“We also sold a top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket a few weeks ago. When you’re hot, you’re hot!
“We wish our winning customer all the very best!”
