Three men have been charged over a dramatic attempted jewellery robbery which was thwarted by a group of workers and shoppers at a popular Gold Coast shopping centre.
Police allege the trio turned up to Coomera Westfield in a vehicle just before 5pm on Friday afternoon, when two of the men entered the centre armed with a tyre iron.
The duo allegedly struck a glass cabinet at a jewellery store inside, attempting to break the glass.
However, a number of shoppers and workers from a nearby barber shop ran in to stop the alleged robbery, forcing the pair to make a run for it without any jewellery.
Their getaway car was eventually intercepted by police on Creek Street a short time later, where the trio was taken into custody.
A 24-year-old Mount Warrant Park man, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, has been charged with driving without a licence, evasion offence in company, wilful damage and enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence.
A 23-year-old Coomera man and a 26-year-old Upper Coomera man were both charged with one count each of wilful damage and enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence.
