Three people have been charged after an alleged fraudulently hired rental car crashed in Surfers Paradise this morning.

The hire car smashed into a brick wall and power box just after 8am on Paradise Island.

The driver of the vehicle and another man allegedly fled the scene, while a female remained in the back seat with minor injuries.

Police say the men attempted to escape quickly in a rideshare vehicle, however, this was tracked down almost immediately by Police and the men were taken into custody.

The woman, a 45-year-old, suffered a cut to her face and was transported to hospital by Paramedics.

Police say she was acting very erratically.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, has been charged with 5 counts of fraud in relation to the hire vehicle and other fraudulent items Police found.

A 32-year-old male passenger has been charged with possessing a glass pipe utensil and also with possessing stolen property – which was a mobile phone.

The woman has also been charged with possessing a glass pipe utensil.

There has been significant damage to the brick wall and power box with Energex having to attend the scene.

The crash also reportedly narrowly missed hitting a small dog.

The trio will all front court in June.
