A trial will continue today for a Gold Coast woman charged with the murder of her adult son.
The opening day of proceedings in Brisbane’s Supreme Court on Monday heard Maree Crabtree allegedly laced a fruit smoothie with oxycodone before giving it to her son, Jonathan.
The 26-year-old’s body was found in his bedroom several hours later after paramedics were called to the family’s Maudsland home on July 19, 2017.
The Crown alleges Ms Crabtree killed her son after he robbed a pharmacy, putting strain on the family’s finances.
The court also heard Ms Crabtree allegedly tried to claim on her son’s life insurance.
The 57-year-old has pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder, one count of murder and one count of attempted insurance fraud.
The trial continues.
