Firefighters are on high alert today, with a dangerous cocktail of hot and windy conditions threatening to flare up bushfires.
An extreme fire danger has been declared for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt area, where a massive bushfire continues to rage.
The blaze has already claimed the lives of two people and destroyed close to 50 houses.
In the southeast, a high fire danger rating has been issued for most local government areas including the Gold Coast, where temperatures are expected to soar into the mid-30s on Tuesday.
A strong wind change is also expected this afternoon, increasing wind gusts across the city to over 40km/h.
As a result of the dangerous conditions, a total fire ban has been declared for nearly all of Queensland, meaning the lighting of all fires is prohibited and all previous permits to light fires have been cancelled.
Interstate help has been called in to assist with the state’s bushfire emergency, with Victoria sending six fire trucks overnight.
Crews from across the ditch are also on their way to help and are expected to arrive from New Zealand on November 5.
