Titans players have broken their silence following confirmation superstar forward David Fifita will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
After days of speculation, the 24-year-old finally informed the Titans on Thursday that he would not be activating a clause in his contract that would have kept him on the coast for another two years.
The Queensland forward has instead decided to trade the beaches of the Gold Coast for the beaches of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, reportedly inking a four-year $3.3 million deal with the Roosters from 2025.
While Titans coach Des Hasler described the loss of their marquee man as “all part of the game”, veteran five-eighth Kieran Foran admitted it was disappointing.
“We would have loved Dave to stay on with us as he’s been such a big part of this club over the last few years,” Foran told Hot Tomato’s Galey and Emily Jade.
“He’s really laid the foundation for the club moving forward, so it would have been great for him to continue and grow with us.
“But, at the end of the day, he’s entitled to decide where he wants to play and where he feels he’ll be happiest…
“He’s obviously decided a move down south is what he needs at this stage of his career and we’ve just got to get on with it.
“We’ve got a whole season ahead of us and some really important games, so I know Dave will park that now, put it to the side and put in his best performances for the club until the end of the season”.
Hasler has confirmed it will be as usual this weekend, with Fifita set to line-up in the second-row as planned for Sunday’s clash against the Cowboys at Cbus Stadium.
