A teenage boy is assisting police after another Gold Coast tobacco store was targeted in an attempted break-in.

It’s the second time in just two days wannabe thieves have tried to force their way into tobacco stores across the city.

The latest incident occurred just before 3am on Tuesday, when two people attempted to smash into a business along the Gold Coast Highway in Miami.

When unsuccessful, the duo fled the scene in a white Holden ute with stolen number plates which was found abandoned at the intersection of Dawn Parade and Sunshine Parade a short time later.

Police then received a call about someone trying to break into the balcony of a residence in Dawn Parade.

Officers rushed to the scene and searched the area, locating a 16-year-old boy on the Gold Coast Highway just north of Dawn Parade.

He is assisting police with their investigations.
