An 18-year-old has been charged after a wild cross-border chase that came to a dramatic end on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Police have confirmed they received a call from their southern counterparts around 5.50pm on Saturday, after the highway patrol observed a Blue Holden Commodore sedan driving at high speed on the Pacific Motorway at Cudgera Creek, just south of the border.

Officers in New South Wales had tried to intercept the vehicle but the driver didn’t stop and continued driving erratically.

Road spikes were successfully deployed near Chinderah but the vehicle continue driving north despite suffering significant tyre damage.

Queensland Police then followed the vehicle as it crossed the border before it came to a stop on Cowell Road in Burleigh Heads.

Four people, two 18-year-old men, an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were all taken into custody at the scene.

The passengers were all eventually released without charge.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evasion offence, wilful damage, receiving tainted property and fraud. He was denied bail and will appear before Southport Magistrates Court on January 27.

Queensland Police have confirmed he will also be charged with a number of interstate offences by New South Wales Police and will appear in a local court at a future date.
