A teenage girl has racked up more than $3000 in fines after being busted allegedly speeding near a road works site on the Gold Coast.

Police detected the vehicle, a 2010 Subaru Impreza, allegedly travelling at 120km in a 60km zone along the Gold Coast Highway in Miami around 10pm on Wednesday.

Officers allege the car also went through a red light.

They pulled over the vehicle a short time later and discovered the car was also unregistered.

The 19-year-old girl behind the wheel was fined $3378 for multiple traffic offences including exceed speed limit by more than 40km and driving uninsured.

The Carrara teen was also hit with fail to stop at red traffic light, use/permit use of unregistered motor vehicle and use/permit vehicle with plates recorded as cancelled/lost/damaged.
