A teenage boy has been charged with a string of offences over a horror crash in Logan that claimed the life of a man on a mobility scooter.
The 17-year-old allegedly drove a red Ford Focus through a stop sign in Kingston around 10.40am on Saturday, colliding with another car before crashing into a mobility scooter.
The rider of the mobility scooter, a 76-year-old man, died at the scene.
The boy attempted to do a runner but was restrained by members of the public before police arrived and took him into custody.
His passengers, a girl and boy, left the scene on foot.
During a search of the teen driver and his backpack, police allegedly located cannabis, medication that was not prescribed to him and two cards that police allege were stolen.
The boy has since been charged with seven offences relating to the crash, including one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by intoxicating substance and left scene of incident without obtaining help.
He’s also facing two counts of unlicenced driving, three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing s4 or s8 medicines.
Police have also slapped him with a further nine unrelated property crime offences including four counts of possessing tainted property and one count each of enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, possession of unauthorised and prohibited explosives (ammunition) and possess used drug utensils.
“It will be alleged these charges relate to offences committed on February 20, including the theft of number plates at Crestmead and a burglary at Greenbank,” Queensland Police said.
Police have refused the boy bail and he is expected to appear before Beenleigh Children’s Court today, where police have indicated they will also oppose bail.
A 16-year-old girl is assisting police with investigations, but has not been charged at this stage.
Police continue to appeal to anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV vision, to come forward.
