Locals and tourists have been given the green light to return to a popular swimming spot on the Gold Coast.

Tallebudgera Creek was closed between Schuster Park and Tallebudgera Creek Beach on Monday following a major sewage spill.

The cause of the contamination has since been traced back to a cracked pipe at the Elanora wastewater treatment plant in Palm Beach, but exactly who caused it remains a mystery.

Water from the creek has since undergone rigorous testing, with several samples taken over the past two days.

Council has confirmed the results have come back all clear today, with swimmers given the thumbs up to make a splash.

“Tallebudgera Creek has reopened to swimming after water sampling results indicated that the creek was safe for swimming,” A City of Gold Coast spokesperson said.

“The safety of our staff, residents and visitors is our number one priority and we apologise for any inconvenience and thank all customers, residents and visitors for their patience and assistance”.
