The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships has been forced to suspend competition after a man was struck in the head in a boating incident in North Kirra.
The man in his 50s suffered serious facial injuries when a boat overturned during competition just after 10am today.
Paramedics, including the High Acuity Response Unit, rushed to the scene just off Gibson Street and Pacific Parade.
The man has been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Multiple beaches have been closed across South East Queensland due to hazardous surf.
