A man has died suddenly at a northern Gold Coast restaurant after allegedly causing a disturbance.

Police allege the man in his 40s was acting “highly agitated and aggressive”, before being restrained by a community member in the upmarket Sanctuary Cove area in Hope Island last night.

Upon arrival, responding officers found the man unresponsive, paramedics could not revive the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the man’s death.

The matter is being investigated by Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command overviewed by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Anyone who observed the incident at the restaurant is urged to contact police.
