The State Government and Vinnies have partnered up to deliver an extra 147 new social homes across Queensland, including on the Gold Coast.
In total, 60 homes will be built in Nerang, with an additional 27 in Toowoomba and 60 in Bundaberg.
The project will cost almost $71 million, with the State Government contributing $58.65 million and St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland contributing more than $12 million, including the land.
Housing Minister and Gold Coast MP Meaghan Scanlon says it’s part of a record $5 billion for social and affordable housing, which is the largest investment in Queensland’s history.
“Every Queenslander deserves a roof over their head,” Minister Scanlon says.
“Since coming to government in 2015, we’ve delivered on average more than 10 homes a week for Queenslanders, and we’re determined to keep delivering homes for people who need it most,
“Partnerships with organisations such as St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland are key to our delivery of more social housing for Queenslanders in need.”
Vinnies Queensland CEO Kevin Mercer says they look forward to being able to provide more homes for people in need.
“This partnership will allow us to provide a safe and secure place to call home for 147 Queensland families and individuals,” Mr Mercer says.
“Through the State Government working with support organisations like Vinnies, we can provide more than just a place to live, but also ensure residents have access to wrap-around support for furniture, food and other essentials to provide hope and security in the long-term.”
