The son of a former Gold Coast Councillor has announced he will run as a candidate in next year’s Gold Coast City Council election.
Edward Saroff, the son of former Division 10 councillor Eddy Saroff, has entered the race in Division 7, which is currently held by suspended councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden.
The 26-year-old made the announcement at the weekend, revealing a career at council had always been something he had dreamed of achieving.
“I have grown up immersed in a climate where council issues are lived in the household, I understand the challenges that local government face and the importance of having a strong voice for the community you represent,” Mr Saroff said.
“My decision today is driven by my passion to ensure that the city is well represented and that the community has a strong and effective voice in city hall.
“My dad has seen his time in the Council chambers & has been an effective representative during his long time serving the city. I have my own vision & I am capable of making decisions, all of which will be driven by the community’s agenda”.
The Griffith University graduate, who has built a strong reputation in performing arts, stressed he will not be accepting any campaign donations to ensure “full independence and avoid any potential conflict of interest”.
“It is important to remove any doubt of independence and any accusation of potential conflicts,” he said.
“The community needs to be reassured that their local representative is capable of making decisions without any fear or favor.
“Currently there are several pressing issues that require appropriate representation in the council chambers, and I’m hoping the residents can have their say, that can only be achieved by having proper representation decisions that require proper consultation”.
Gold Coasters will head to the polls for the local city council election in March, 2024.
