The Gold Coast is gearing up for a soggy few days with widespread showers and storms expected to ruin the weekend.
It’s all thanks to a low-pressure system over northwest New South Wales that extends a trough into the interior of Queensland.
The low-pressure system and trough will track slowly eastwards over the coming days, bringing a moist airmass, widespread showers and the risk of severe thunderstorms across much of eastern Queensland.
The Bureau is forecasting between 15 and 35mm of rain for the Gold Coast for Friday.
Showers will fall across the city with the possibility of storms reaching the coast however, those storms are more likely to be severe in areas of the Granite Belt, Darling Downs and Central Highlands.
Saturday is expected to be even wetter with up to 40mm possible courtesy of more showers and storms, while Sunday could see up to 45mm.
Showers will persist into Monday and Tuesday before the sun returns on Wednesday.
While rainfall totals on the Gold Coast won’t be as bad as other areas of the state, the BOM warns that it won’t take much for already sodden grounds to flood.
A flood watch remains in place for several parts of Central and Southern Inland Queensland.
